Faith & Healing Pharmacy compounds medication for pets and animals, working from your veterinarian’s prescription. We’re an independent pharmacy at 151 Adams Lane, Suite 18, in Mount Juliet, TN. We prepare flavored liquids, small-dose capsules and topicals in the strength your vet writes, so the medicine fits your animal instead of the other way around. Every preparation is non-sterile and made for one animal from one prescription. Call 615-583-7575 to talk to a pharmacist about your animal’s prescription.

What pet compounding is

Pet compounding is the preparation of a medication by a licensed pharmacist to fit one animal’s prescription when the standard product doesn’t. The pharmacist combines, adjusts or reformulates ingredients to produce a strength, form or flavor that no commercially manufactured product offers.

Compounding isn’t a replacement for a commercial medication that already works. When an FDA-approved product fits your animal, that’s the one to use. Compounding is for the cases where it doesn’t fit: a dose no manufacturer makes, a form your animal can’t take, or a medicine your animal refuses as it comes. Compounding is one of the oldest parts of pharmacy practice, and it’s still routine: a prescriber writes what a patient needs, and a pharmacist prepares it.

Every compound we prepare is non-sterile, made for a single animal, and dispensed only against a written prescription from your veterinarian. We don’t compound for office stock. Our compounding follows USP <795>, the standard for non-sterile preparation, which sets how each compound is made, documented and given a beyond-use date. Ingredients come from verified suppliers, with documentation kept for every component we use, and we’re licensed and inspected by the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy.

The forms we make

These are the forms we prepare for animals, each made to your vet’s prescription:

  • Flavored oral liquidsA liquid can be measured to the prescribed dose and flavored so your animal will take it. It’s often the simplest option for an animal that won’t swallow a capsule.
  • Small-dose capsulesCapsules prepared at the small strength your vet prescribes, for animals that need a dose commercial products don’t come in.
  • Strengths adjusted to weightYour vet works out the dose for your animal, and we prepare the exact strength written on the prescription, including doses no manufacturer makes.
  • Topical creams and gelsPrepared in the base and strength on your vet’s prescription, for when your vet wants a medicine applied directly or an oral form isn’t tolerated.
  • Easier-to-give formsIf your animal won’t take a medicine in the form it was written, our pharmacist can suggest a different form to your vet, such as a liquid instead of a capsule.

Every form we make is non-sterile, prepared for one animal from one prescription, and made in-house at our Mount Juliet pharmacy rather than shipped in. If you’re not sure which form would suit your animal, ask your vet to call us and we’ll talk it through.

Working with your vet

Your vet writes the prescription, and we make it. Federal law requires a valid, patient-specific prescription for every compounded medication, so we can’t prepare one without your vet.

01

Your vet sends the prescription

By phone, fax or e-prescription, directly to us.

02

We confirm it with you

A pharmacist calls you to confirm the details and tell you what it will cost before we prepare anything.

03

It’s made to order, in-house, at our Mount Juliet pharmacy.

04

You collect it

Pick it up in store, use curbside pickup, or have it delivered.

Our pharmacist works directly with prescribers, confirming a strength before preparing it and suggesting a different form when a patient can’t take what was written. The pharmacist who prepares your animal’s medication is the one who answers when you call about it.

Who to call: call us at 615-583-7575 about the preparation itself, such as the form, the flavor, the cost or when it will be ready. Call your vet about the dose, the treatment, or how your animal is doing.

Flavoring

A medicine only works if your animal actually takes it. If every dose turns into a struggle, doses get missed, and the treatment your vet planned doesn’t happen the way it should.

That’s why flavoring is one of the most common requests we get, for animals and children alike. Working from your vet’s prescription, we prepare medications in forms and flavors animals accept, so the medicine is easier to give and easier to finish. Flavoring is available on request for the liquids we prepare. For pets, the right answer might be a flavored liquid, a small-dose capsule or a topical, whichever your vet agrees your animal will accept.

Tell us when you call if your animal has refused a medicine before, and we’ll factor that in when we prepare it.

Common questions

We compound for cats, dogs and other non-food-producing animals. Every preparation starts with a written prescription from your veterinarian.

Most non-sterile compounds are ready within a few business days. The timeline depends on the formula and whether we have the ingredients on hand, and we give you a ready-by time when we call to confirm. For refills, ask a few days before you run out.

Often not, and many compounded prescriptions are paid out of pocket. Call us with the prescription details and we’ll tell you what it costs before we prepare anything, so there are no surprises at pickup.
